What if I say you can experience 3D visual effects on your TV without using 3D glasses? Yes, it is true, Samsung has come up with a new 55-inch glasses-free 3D HDTV prototype that promises the pleasure of 3D viewing without those cumbersome glasses.

The 55-inch 3D TV features full HD resolution of 1920×1080 with contrast ratio of 4000:1 and brightness of 500cd/m2. Switch modes from 2D to 3D; where it changes the Optical Refraction Index in between two LCD Panels used for displaying images. One of the panels is assigned for actual picture delivery and another one as an overlaid lens. Thus making it act as a smart TV. The mechanism behind the LCD panel is that it gives two different processes to the users eyes. It acts as a lens which splits the images in between right and left eyes. For best viewing results, it’s advised to be seated at about 8 to 20 feet (2.5-6 meters) away from the TV.

As reported on Techon, this TV is currently in prototype form which will be replaced with the LED back-light unit before commercializing it. Samsung believes this 55-inch 3D TV will be available in the market within the next three years.
