How to Organize Closets

Closets are often seen as unorganized with clothes lying anywhere and everywhere. This happens even if you organize your closet every month. Organizing the closet is an ongoing process and needs to be done once in a while when you have free time. There is a method in which you can lay out your clothes and things inside the closet. If you follow that, your closet will always stay clean and tidy. Follow the steps below whenever you need to organize your closet.

Complexity Level: Basic

Time Required: 2-3 hours

Resources Required:

  1. Cleaning duster cloth
  2. Vacuum cleaner
  3. Newspaper
  4. Naphthalene balls

Instructions:

1. Empty the closet

The very first step to follow is empty the closet completely. Remove all the small and large clothing items and accessories from the closet. This will take a lot of your time and you will create a mess all around the closet, however this is essential.

2. Use the vacuum cleaner

Using the vacuum cleaner, clean the corners and head of the closet from inside. There are chances of cobwebs, moths settling down in the corners. These will be cleaned with the vacuum cleaner.

3. Use the wet cloth

Using a duster cloth or a wet duster, clean the closet shelves thoroughly. Clean in every corner and the back of the shelves very well. Clean once with a wet cloth and then with a dry cloth. Let the closet dry out completely.

4. Laying the newspapers and Naphthalene balls

Take single sheets of newspaper and fold them to fit the closet shelf. Place one sheet on each shelf so that your clothes do not lie on the wood directly. The newspaper will also keep the clothes dry during the rainy season. Make sure the newspaper does not jut out of the shelves. Now, place a single naphthalene ball in every back corner of each shelf. These will keep away moths and other pests.

5. Sorting clothes

Now, sort the clothes you have. Remove the clothes which you feel you would not be using anymore and donate them. Also, sort the winter and summer clothes separately. Make piles of clothes which you are going to use in the current season and place them in the middle shelves, where you can reach them easily. The remaining ones either place on the topmost shelves or bottom-most shelves. Also, throw away accessories and things which you will not be using anymore. Now, place each pile carefully in the respective shelves and your closet will look organized and clean.
