Disposal of human waste is a colossal problem, especially in the slums and other unauthorized habitations. The absence of running water and sewage systems give rise to untold sanitation related diseases such as dysentery, cholera and typhoid. The pit latrines are commonly used by the slum dwellers, but their overuse and lack of running water results in serious health hazards. Besides hygiene issue, the residents have to face security risks and embarrassment due to lack of privacy while defecating in the open.
The Benga Toilet provides the slum residents with a sanitary, dignified, convenient and practical means of disposal of human waste. It is foldable, multifunctional unit with attached disposable bags. The waste collected in a biodegradable bag is convertible into biofuel and fertilizer. The folding toilet can even act like a stool when not in use making it is an excellent piece of modular furniture along with an innovative human waste disposal management system for the slums.
