How to Clean Cotton Bed Sheet

When you clean and decorate your bedroom, one of the obvious things you must do is to change the bed sheet. A clean bed sheet changes the whole appeal of a room, from a shabby one to a neat and tidy one. While talking about bed sheets, what most people prefer is the cotton bed sheet. It is easier to maintain as it can be washed at home, dried and spread back again. But some people apply wrong techniques while cleaning their cotton bed sheets. As a result, the bed sheets become discolored or permanently wrinkled. Therefore, whether made from Egyptian cotton or Vietnamese cotton, whatever may be the origin, there are certain basic steps in cleaning cotton bed sheets. Here’s a guide for you that will help you in cleaning the cotton bed sheets properly.

Complexity Level: Basic

Time Required: 25-35 minutes

Resources Required:

  1. Detergent powder or liquid detergent
  2. Fabric bleach
  3. Clean water

Instructions :

1. Remove the bed set at a time

When you plan to wash your cotton bed sheet, make sure to wash each set at a time. That means, wash the full set of two pillow covers, the bed sheet and two side pillow covers together. The reason to avoid washing other clothes together with the bed set is because the dirt from those fabrics may get stuck on to your cotton bed set. Moreover, those which have problems of color bleeding can also damage your bed sheet and the pillow covers.

2. Create the required temperature in the washing machine

Set the temperature of your washing machine to cool mode. This is the perfect temperature for washing cottons. Otherwise, the fabric may get damaged. Put approximately two teaspoons of laundry detergent powder or liquid detergent inside the detergent case of your washing machine. In case, the bed sheet and other things have become stubbornly soiled, put a cap full of fabric bleach.

3. Set the bed sheet to get washed

Put your cotton bed sheet along with the pillow covers inside the washing tub and connect the inlet tube of the washing machine with a water source to let water fill the tub adequately in the process of mixing soap and bleach in it. Soak the soiled clothes for about 10 minutes in the detergent mix inside the washing machine. Now, set the washing program to “gentle wash”.

4. Remove the bed sheet in time

When the wash program stops, set the cotton bed sheet on “spin” so that extra water gets removed. But do not make spin too much else there will be stubborn wrinkles all over the bed set, specially the bed sheet as it is much bigger in size and crinkles will be clearly visible. Remove all your stuffs from the washing machine and allow them to dry on a dryer in a warm temperature. Before subjecting the bed sheet and the pillow covers to dry, shake them with a jerk to remove the wrinkles as much as possible.

5. Finish your cleaning process

Remove the bed sheet and other bed accessories from the dryer when they still feel damp to touch. Now, hang them in a clothesline and allow them to dry naturally. When completely dry, remove it from the clothesline. Iron and fold your bed set together and put them in your linen cupboard.
