How to Make Sachets

A sachet is a small-sized bag that is decorated from the outside and is filled with fragrant ingredients like potpourri. These sachets can be used to decorate the dressing table, a wardrobe and even the bathroom as their contents release a pleasant fragrance in the surrounding. Sachets are normally made out of a fabric, with the top that is sealed with a ribbon. You can be creative and fill them up with various potpourri and decorate them as you like.

You can also decide the shape of sachet and can use them as little gifts for special occasions too. A heart-shaped sachet would be the perfect, simple yet cute Valentine’s Day gift. You can also go ahead and use the properties of aromatherapy in deciding the scents of potpourri, for instance, the scent of lavender has great healing properties for headaches and stress. These amazing sachets take very less time to make and if you have all the raw materials ready then sewing is the only basic thing that takes time. Here’s a simple process of making sachet. Read on.

  11. Cardboard or thick paper
  12. Yardstick or ruler

Instructions:

1. Deciding the size, shape and fabric of your sachet

First and foremost, you have to decide the fabric you would like for your sachet along with the shape and size you would like to give it. Once decided, sketch the shape on the cloth.

2. Choosing the ribbon

You must also choose a ribbon that matches the fabric and make sure that it is 1/4 inch wide or less. Around a quarter yard of ribbon would be required per sachet.

3. Choosing the potpourri

You must also choose the scent you would like and accordingly select the right potpourri. It’s very important for a fragrance-full environment.

4. Cutting the fabric and stitching it

By using a yardstick/ruler, measure the cloth having the requisite dimensions and cut out two of the same size. Make a seam of 1/4 inch around the shape and stitch all sides and leave 2 inches of open space for inserting the potpourri. Slightly snip the corner at an angle and turn the ‘right’ side out.

5. Adding the potpourri and decorating the sachet

Add the potpourri inside the opening. Do not fill it to the top. Stitch the 2 inch opening. Tie a bright colorful ribbon around the top which should be left empty enough. Now, make a beautiful bow. You can be a little creative and adorn your sachet with beads and little glittery decorations with fabric glue. Your decorations will add an appealing look to your little creations. The sachet is perfect for gifting away to near and dear ones!
