Sleek numitron clock tells time and temperature

numitron clock

The sleek little clock, dubbed as Numitron, is definitely a cool one to have on your side table. While mimicking the incandescent light bulbs of yesteryears to some extent, the contraption conceived and created by Instructables user [janw] serves the dual purpose of a clock and thermometer at the same time.

Neat display devices – quite similar to nixie tubes – require only 4.5v DC for operation, and that is the reason they are quite safe to work with to make a Numitrons clock. A number of filaments are configured with independent control to act as a display device.

DS12307, a real-time clock does the timekeeping, whereas the temperature is measured with a DS18B20 wire temperature sensor. Both of these single wire sensors are connected with Atmega48MCU, which serves as the brain of this clock. The Numitrons is mounted on a 5-layer milled acrylate stand with a pair of button on its bottom to set time.
