Irons that remove wrinkles from your clothes are important part of your home electrical. But when it comes to getting one for yourself, you would never want to make any compromise with style and functionality. Right? Steam irons have been ruling the class and stand apart from the crowd for the fact that they are functionally smart and help remove wrinkles from your clothes with ease.
Kevin Cheng, an industrial designer from California in the quest to improve the existing steam irons came up with the STRATA Steam Iron.
Strata steam iron is an ideal answer to the following problems:
Safety
Irons left unattended are hazards especially if children are present. The sole plate is extremely hot and hanging wires can be easily tripped on.
Tank refill
Many times, the water compartments aren’t large enough for frequentuse and refilling requires dragging around the entire generator and can be messy.
Storage
Storing a steam iron should be fast and easy. Often taking it out and putting it away requires a level of portability that needs to be further developed.
Settings
Most steam iron generators feature two sets of controls, one on the generator and one on the iron having to mess with settings in two different locations is unnecessary and a hassle.
Adaptability
Whether the user prefers to keep the generator on the ironing board or off,steam iron generators have to adopt to any scenario a user may be in.
Ergonomics
In order to increase efficiency and speed, ironing clothes should feel natural and intuitive.
Key Features:
Steam/steam boost
The steam trigger, placed on the underside of the swivel handles is a two stage button. The first function is activated when the trigger is pressed down to as far as the spring within allows, releasing steam through the sole plate. At that point, a momentary switch allows the trigger to be pressed down ever further, activating the steam boost.
The Strata swivel
A feature implemented into the handle of the iron, allowing the user more control of the iron’s movements. Built on a springed axis, the swivel allows the hand to rotate naturally with the iron when making curved motions.
Central control point
A dual function dial allows for the control both steam power as well as iron temperature, putting all the controls into one convenient location. The inner dial controls the steam power setting and the outer dial sets the temperature.
Safe fingers
A large portion of injuries caused by steam iron are due to users accidentally burning their fingers while ironing. The design of the iron encompassing the sole plate features a surface protruding past the edge the plate creating a small enough tolerance that ensures users are not able to accidentally burn their fingers.
Water tank
Named after its layer-themed design, the STRATA water tank layer can be easily removed and quickly filled up at a faucet. The exit spout of the tank, in which the generator draws water from is located at the bottom of the tank and tightly sealed so the no water escapes unless the generator is turned on.
Resting the iron
Flexible in conforming to the user’s needs, the STRATA iron can be placed on its heels or rested on the base features vents for the heat expelled by the iron and can also be removed and placed upon the ironing board for convenience.
