The inner life chair: A bridge between nature and us

The Inner Life Chair by Martin azua

Martin Azua’s love for natural processes and his efforts towards their integration in lifestyle products has given birth to a beautiful furniture-the inner life chair. The dearth of space in urban dwellings mostly keeps one devoid of greenery and gardens. It also isn’t easy to maintain gardens in whatever small space you are left with in the form of balcony.

The greenery and the shelter it provides, attracts not only us society animals but also small pets that are often spotted in city homes. As it’s name suggests, the chair combines the comfort of seating with a vessel that can shelter small animals like a tortoise in a hollow space at the base of the chair. So your cute puppy may make this space at the base as his cozy little corner.

Visibly, it’s a very minimalistic chair with a comfortable seat. A small plant can be planted in a space visible on the sides of the chair as seen in the pic. The idea of planting a plant in the chair is really alluring. Imagine the comfort of sitting in shelter of greenery. Well, research has also proved that being in company of nature can help one reduce stress. The hollow at the base of the chair can help small animals find a safe shelter. It’s clear that this furniture doesn’t need extra care and isn’t a delicate one. So you really don’t need to worry about time wasted in cleaning and care of furniture.

Now, something about the designer of this chair: Martin Azua, is greatly inspired by natural processes and since 1999 he is working on the idea of connecting these with products. His first effort worth mentioning was Natural Finish, for which he kept porous ceramic jars on the river beds to collect natural stains. This 2008 FAD award winning designer claims that the inner life is ‘an integration of natural processes in everyday life, life inside objects.’ In a way his efforts are also making our lives easier, what say?
