4 Bedroom decoration trends to watch out for in 2018

We spend about a third of your life in our bedroom asleep, and we often spend a lot of time in there awake, as well. This has resulted in trends in bedroom decorations, whether reflecting popular culture or improved understanding of what it takes to enhance our quality of sleep. Here are four bedroom decoration trends to watch out for in 2018.

Changing the Bedspread

BEDROOM

We’re seeing significant changes in the bedspreads and sheets used on beds. If you use the standard fluffy comforter, there’s a good chance you’re overheating at night, except for in the depths of winter.

Or, you’re putting blankets on top of it and sleeping among those. The better solution is to find a comforter that is comfortable whether it is warm or cold. The traditional option has always been down comforters since they retain heat when it is cold and let heat escape when it is chilly. A better option would be a down alternative comforter. A side benefit to these forever comfortable comforters is that they’re hypoallergenic.

Low to No Headboards

Headboards were originally used to protect the head of the bed from cold winter drafts and provide a measure of privacy when someone entered the room. Modern HVAC equipment and good home design eliminate the first concern, while the second is increasingly irrelevant as we all have our own bedrooms. So why attach a big bulky headboard to the bed that you could hit your head on? And that’s aside from it pushing the bed several inches or feet into the room, taking up valuable floor space.

The solution is either getting rid of the headboard or having a very short one. One increasingly popular alternative is a low flat headboard that doubles as a shelf, a perfect place to put smartphones, photos and other items; this sometimes eliminates the need for bed tables.

A Space for Tech

Forget the standard bed stand used to hold reading glasses, your latest page-turner, and a glass of water. Bedrooms in 2018 are designed to be tech-friendly. For example, we’re seeing shelves located next to the bed with built-in charging ports and plugs, so that you can immediately connect the phone to a power source when you personally unplug.

Metal Structures

Metal structures are now replacing the standard wood end table or dresser for several reasons. The first is to simply use a different material, instead of having the room dominated by wood. A second benefit is that a metal frame table is more open and airy compared to a wood dresser; you can see what is stored inside or underneath it while feeling like the room is more spacious when it isn’t used for storage.

Another variation of this theme is the increasing adoption of metal hanging lamps near and over beds. It provides a bright source of light while freeing up floor space used by standing lamps. You also gain the ability to put an end table or something else under the hanging lamp.

Conclusion

All these trends should drive much of what will be in stores this year. The upside is that most of these trends can be easily replicated and are rather accessible, making them a great choice for all budgets.
