ALAM is a brand new concept for new generation alarm clock. It is a result of the efforts of designers of the Umea Institute of Design, Sweden. This design concept is based on collaboration between Masters of Interaction Design and Masters of Advanced Product Design. The objective behind this design is to incorporate lights and sounds to the existing alarms for better usability.
This design consists of two wake up themes to prove it worthy enough, helping people to wake up. The design concept possesses the features such as:
Light intensity adjustment
Touch interface
Diffused light source
Speakers
Touch display
The physical model of this alarm is constructed from milled high density foam, vacuum foamed polyurethane, 3D printed bezels and laser cut decal templates. An arduino board and 6 LEDs enhance the product usability by fulfilling the desired design concepts.
Working:
1. This alarm wake up people with its unusual and nontraditional alarming sound.
2. The sound score installed in this alarm is quite new and pleasant to human ears unlike the disturbing tunes in the traditional alarming devices.
3. The sound starts from a low pitch and moves up to high until the alarming ends.
4. The lighting feature of this alarm is also commendable.
5. The lighting effect produced by the LEDs seems to bring the dusk light into a house.
6. As it is a touch screen device, alarm can be set effortlessly in no time.
7. The wake up time and date can be fixed once that works regularly without updating it.
8. The alarm comes to action before 5 minutes of the set time with its soothing sound and lighting effects.
People are now used to those irritating, noisy alarm sounds of alarm clocks and cellular phones. They generally put the alarm devices in snooze and take a nap beyond their wake up time. This makes them wake late. As this is a new concept, people would love to try it to experience a soothing waking up option.
