Buddhist bell inspired Glocke MP3 dock produces Zen-like music

Glocke Cradle

While we generally tend to trust ancient wisdom when it comes to health and well-being, we hardly ever give the technological feats of older civilizations even a passing glance. But now, the tech finesse of generations gone by has been brought to light through this astonishing bell-like amplifier called Glocke. Created by designers Sangyong Park, Jungjoon Hwang, Yongbum Lim, Sangyong Han and Taehak Kwon, the Glocke MP3 Amp borrows its form and function from the Buddhist prayer bell that is renowned for its high quality resonance and sound amplifying properties.

The Glocke draws on the design of the bell to provide a unique amplifier for an MP3 player. The curved shape of the glass cylinder bell amplifies the low sound while the glossy plastic exterior prevents it from ‘leaking’ outside. As the sound waves crash on the curved interior of the ball, they grow longer and shorter and are amplified manifold by the time they escape out of the bell’s mouth, giving the user a unique and comforting sound.

Winner of the bronze prize at the 2011 Sparks Awards, the Glocke comes with an MP3 dock as well as LED lamps that produce an increasing or decreasing glow according to the volume of the music inside.
