iGetUp alarm clock brings estranged couples closer

Designed especially for the couples who don’t stay together, the igetUp is a networked alarm clock which uses an iPhone application for its functioning. This application allows one of the partners to control the sleeping hours of the other, thus making it easy for the other one to wake up by the clock alarm. This technology makes it possible to control the timing when the alarm should turn off, what kind of tune to be set for the alarm and at what volume.

iGetUp is a way in which couples can convey their good morning to each other through romantic gestures rather than a monotonous “Good Morning” over the phone every time. Conveying romantic gestures, like morning messages and virtual hugs, is also quite easily possible through this unique networking device. These messages are displayed when the alarm goes off. Hugs, once sent from the phone cause the clock to light up and vibrate, and are visible on the screen of the clock. Hugs can also be sent from the clock itself by squeezing the top portion of it. This device is also another way in which one partner can have a bit more control over the other even if they aren’t staying together.

It is interesting to note how this networking actually works. Surprisingly this networking doesn’t need two iPhones, but just one iPhone and an alarm clock. The application is to be controlled from the phone. The alarms, the music, the volume, the intensity of vibration – all of them are set on the phone but are enacted on the clock. When snooze is hit on the alarm, a push message is sent immediately to the phone.

Chris McNicholl, the inventor of this networking, says that during his research, he got many absurd ideas from people around but the one he chose to investigate was that of sleep. Through this research, he further narrowed down his investigation to couples who weren’t staying together and sought innovative ways to interact with each other.
