Just in time for the World Cup tournament, a team of enterprising women entrepreneurs has unveiled a soccer ball that captures and stores energy generated by play. Dubbed sOccket, this cool lil’ ball is the wiz kid of Harvard alums Jessica Lin, Jessica Matthews, Julia Silverman, and Hemali Thakkar. After playing with the sOccket after school the children can bring it home and power a lamp. How cool it sounds! The sOccket using an inductive coil mechanism induces a voltage that helps generating electricity on movement. Wondering if it would effect the play of kids? Well, not at all! For every 15 minutes played on sOccket 1.0 could illuminate a small LED light for three hours while on the other hand sOccket 2.0 can light the same LED for 3 hrs with just 10 minutes of play.
