This is one of those times when eco-friendliness comes with something absolutely arresting and breathtaking. The ‘Virtue Of Blue’ designed by Jeroen Verhoeven is a marvel made of 502 blue butterflies, which in actuality are cut solar panels, nestling around a big bulb they power, to make a large chandelier. Featured at the UK Gallery Blain Southern where Verhoeven is showcasing his works ‘Virtue of Blue Chandelier’ and ‘Lectori Salutem desk’ as a part of a solo exhibit called The Curious Image.

This chandelier with measurements of 144x144x162 mm is made of blue butterflies, cut and composed of cesium solar cells, a hand blown glass bulb and steel, aluminum structural elements. One can see that this creation is clearly one of those cases where creativity draws from the abundant wealth of knowledge provided by nature, just like the marvelous living butterflies that draws energy from sun rays during the daytime to warm up and sustain their body temperatures, these solar butterflies draw solar energy during the day light hours and sustain the light bulb that they surround.

Apart from being an absolutely beautiful piece of art and even a practical eco-deco item for the environment conscious letting them to be elegant at the same time this marvel is a praise worthy tribute to the concept of drawing inspiration from nature and protecting it using the same.
