Embellishments: MaxDoor – A futuristic entry to the techno world

MaxDoor

What is it?

Besides being the access point to our lifestyle, the door to our house also marks the admission into our private world of peaceful comfort and safety. Based on this concept, Industrial designer Marcio Hulk Giannelli with his experienced team Nódesign has devised the MaxDoor for the new progressive apartments MaxHous.

Designer

Sau Paulo based Marcio Hulk Giannelli graduated from the Faculty of Industrial Design (design) FAAP in 2000, with specialization in Product Design. He is also the founding partner of Nódesign (2001). He has won Idea / Brazil 2008 (Gold) and also Idea / International (Bronze) 2008 for MaxDoor (MaxHous)

The Overview

Addressing core issues of security and flamboyancy in the same go, the MaxDoor brings in new age technology literally to our doorstep. The customized product caters to the MaxHaus apartment enterprise incorporated by MaxCases in Sao Paulo. Its technological characteristics meet users’ demands for a versatile and competent environment that can help show-off their lifestyle to their visitors and at the same time provide an unyielding sanctuary for its members. It makes a variety of breakthrough advancements by remote controlled locking system and replacing doorknobs and keys with an innovative unit called the MaxClê. The doorbell is supplanted with an MP3 player, which plays music according to the mood and fancy of the owner. The MaxDoor uses existing technologies, but with a unique software design.

Key Features

The project’s novelty lies in the disappearance of the knob and so to open or close the door, MaxClê, the key developed for the concept, is used. This electronic key has dimensions of 49 mm height, 44 mm long and 12.9 mm wide. It is a unique box-key ring designed by Nódesign with a single large button to act as a practical and safe access to technologically brilliant MaxHaus apartments. The red LED lights on the door illuminates when the MaxClê is signaled and the door opens with just one touch on the handle.

However, in different situations the MaxDoor can also open mechanically with an embedded key to a secret spot. In emergencies, a camouflaged lever built into the inside of the door at 1.6 m from the floor can also provide the opening.

For delivering letters, a stylishly done compartment takes in the letter, which is retrieved later by a one-touch sensor activity.

The unidirectional peephole connects to a video relay into the house informing them about the visitor.

The bell located in a circle in the upper right conveys a signal to the house owner inside the apartment through an MP3 song selected by the owner to suit the occasion and mood accordingly. The selected music goes on for over a stretch of 30 seconds.

To seal the external or internal sounds, the entire 17 cm thick doorframe has a unique rubber coating and at the bottom of MaxDoor there is a withdrawable extension that drops when the door closes, blocking the gap and completing the fence.

With 104 cm wide, 228.9 cm tall and weighing about 50 kg, MaxDoor structure is composed mostly of aluminum with internal and external front plates of injected polycarbonate. The finishing rubber ‘soft touch’ paint guarantees smoothness and amazement for the beholder. The door is powered by a battery charged by electric power, which sits in an armored box inside the apartment and connects to the entire system related to this port.

All these functions integrate into the design of the door, placed on the disks that make up its exterior look. The modules used here are similar to that of computers, with symbols in black and red differentiating between each component.

What’s Different?

The innovative features of this door are varied. Its unique MaxClê remote, customized MP3 door bell, hidden compartments and innovative exterior ‘soft touch’ paint makes it a stand-apart technology.
