Over the years various designers have planned on compact systems that can turn each square-foot as precious as possible but none quite like the latest lego-styled micro-home of Barcelona based Christian Schallert. He has found a novel design to turn his 24 square meter apartment into a spacious living space providing all the luxuries of a full-fledged house with added incentive to stay fit.

Hence, finding a spacious apartment here, as like in all other cities globally is costly and quite a tough task. Having lived a life near sea watching small boats furl and unfurl into complex space and also inspired by the clear line of design in Japanese home-decor, Schallert designed his own transformer styled retractable furniture and rooms within his room-sized apartment. He has deliberated his bed that stays put under the balcony when not in use and can be rolled out full or half to unfurl into a settee also. The kitchen is stacked away in the cupboard and so are the refrigerator, toilet, wardrobe, provision cupboard and dining table. The TV too swings out from the wall giving the extra comfort of being able to adjust in various directions depending desire of house inhabitants. The balcony of the small apartment in no way constricts the open air and surroundings whereas enhancing further and acting more like an open terrace or patio.

His fascination for simple touches to unfurl spacious living areas has actually opened a new window into dealing with legroom issues in cities crunched for living space. The constant variation of designs and furniture not only allows ample breathing space inside the apartment but as Schallert says helps him stay fit and energetic.
