Gesture Light : LED lamp by Matthew Plumstead

gesture light

Gesture light is a utility desk/table lamp that exists somewhere in the zone between being a task light and a sculptural desk light. It has been designed by the upcoming designer Matthew Plumstead whose work has been more lime-lighted through his light designs more so than others.

This light has been designed around a ring shaped LED, in a bid to keep the design as thin as possible with the idea that sculpturally it would be seen as a line drawing or pen and ink drawing, the critique being chosen in the earlier in the development process so that the designer could make a decision regarding the choice of either making it a conceptual design or a more functional, convincing task light. The design has been suggestive of influences like that of Calder, while there have been suggestions to look at ways to change the line weight. As of now, this light is still more of an experiment than a definitive product and connoisseurs might end up with a line-thin art workish light or better yet something both functional and sculptural by the end of the development process.
