Simple ways to brighten up your space

When you step into your room and don’t feel better or happier anymore, that’s a sign that the room needs some decorating and urgently. A very refreshing and affordable way to change the whole atmosphere in the room is by making it bright. Not the glaring bright, but brighter than before with light playing an important role. The best part of this sort of redecorating (apart from the feel good factor) is that it doesn’t require much investment and with a little sense and knowledge of colors and materials you can transform your space. Here is how:

Add Mirror and Reflective Surfaces

Mirrors create an illusion of a room being larger and brighter by reflecting light. This however doesn’t mean that you have to make your room a house of mirrors. A beautiful mirror, several small, decorative ones and even reflective surfaces like table tops and photo frames can do the trick. By throwing back the light that falls on them, these shining surfaces bring light into a room, making it refreshing and not to mention brighter.

Add a House Plant

Indoor plants are refreshing and add a sense of space in your room. Plants, especially vines, can be beautifully used to conceal dark or walls that are not so presentable. Climbers also create a sense of height in low ceiling, which is a wonderful way of creating a fresh and brighter look in a dull and dark room.

Change the Color

This is probably the most useful and popular idea. Changing the shade of the room can change the whole atmosphere, provided you pick the right one. While choosing a color for your room, pick a light shade because lighter colors reflect more light and make a room brighter as well as create a sense of space.

White is a very good choice and with the right furniture can look breathtakingly beautiful. If your don’t like the whole white thing, go for contrast like adding brighter shades of yellow or green in your room.

Change the Decor

Creating a brighter room sometimes is just about making the right choice where decor is concerned. Be it a piece of art, a wall decoration, beautifully colored vintage bottles or a new way of putting the old furniture; if done right, it can create the most beautiful and bright rooms. Another way is to add a little of a contrast colors. Try adding a hint of black in a white room or a bold red in the middle of a neutral room.

The Furniture

Now its time to change what is the most important thing of your room, the furniture. For this, you might start by removing all the furniture from the room and begin with a fresh mind. You can create groupings by arranging furniture in groups rather than together. You can change the focal point of your room by making one thing, a fireplace or a piece of art, stand out by arranging seating so that people can see them or you can swap things from another room, redecorating two rooms at the same time.

Rooms are like people and have their personalities, but unlike people they are very easy to change. If your room requires a makeover, go ahead and give it one.
