CarbonLight Homes from VELUX and HTA are ultra-efficient as well as gorgeous

Windows have always been the soul of a home though they have
come increasingly under focus these days as homeowners look towards high tech
windows to provide better insulation, protection from sunlight and optimum flow
of light through the home.

And even though most window manufacturers do a lot of marketing
and research to ensure that the customer can understand the value of their product,
few go to the same lengths as VELUX has.

The window and skylight manufacturer from Denmark roped in the
services of HTA, the noted British architecture firm, to create a series of experimental
homes that could optimally feature the use of their products.

The homes were developed for typical UK based families and
were designed to be low carbon emission structures. One of the many buildings
in the project is the Velux Model Home 2020.

The highly sustainable design uses the CarbonLight windows
and skylights from VELUX to perfect and even uses these regular architectural elements
to create a dramatic interior and exterior for the home.

The home uses windows and skylights that also provide a high
degree of air tightness while minimizing thermal bridging and offering superior
insulation.

Through the use of the windows alone, the home was able to significantly
reduce its heating costs while the use of added renewable energy elements
allowed it to reduce it carbon footprint while meting all of its energy requirements.

VELUX is hoping that the experimental low-carbon home provides
them with the kind of data they need to gauge customers’ preferences and
reactions to the use of such windows and skylights and to see what kind of an
impact they can have on the overall energy consumption of a typical family in the
country.
