A hi-tech and weightless space hotel concept has been envisioned by Industrial Design Engineering students at the Imperial College London and the Royal College of Arts. It has been designed to keep the possibility of space tourism and evolution of cutting edge living spaces alive. The toilets and the shower heads have been designed by keeping the elements of space in mind. A robot gatekeeper moves around and records the experience of guests on the camera. They have also envisioned the clothes that need not be washed. Footholds have been incorporated that allows people to stay on the ground and the sleeping bags attached to the walls allow them to float around even in night.

The space suits are designed in such a way that they would help people get used to the weightless atmosphere by giving them a pressure massage. The solutions to personal hygiene, zero gravity et al., are as creative as they could be. Space architecture expert Daniele Bedini, who teaches a course in Space Design at RCA says…

Space hotel could be built tomorrow using today’s existing structures and technologies.

The economic uncertainty may thwart the building of this ambitious project, but that is not the dark end of the tunnel. The end of the tunnel still is lighted by the efforts of Bedini, as he is forwarding the concept to private companies and space agencies.
