$190mn Copper Beech Farm is the costliest home in the US

Located at Copper Beech Farm in Connecticut, this charming-looking building has the distinction of being the most expensive home in the United States. The home lies on a property that sprawls over 50 acres and the home was built in 1896. 

The home which currently belongs to American Forest Services’ CEO and President John Rudey is priced at a staggering $190 million! The house was named for the copper beech trees that surround the acreage. The home was purchased by Harriet Lauder Greenway 1904 and the home remained the center of Greenwich’s high society for more than 75 years. 

John Rudey, the timber tycoon, purchased the home 31 years ago for an unnamed sum.With a mile of water front on the Long Island Sound, the property includes two offshore islands and a 13,519 square feet mansion built in the French-renaissance style. 

The home boasts of 12 bedroom, 7 full bathrooms and 2 half baths. Highlights in the home include a wood-paneled, three-story entry foyer, a staff wing on the third-floor, a wine cellar and a solarium though you’d be equally mesmerized by the oak columns and tracery ceiling in the ornate dining room.

The Victorian manse features lavish fireplaces that are found all over the mansion as well. The original kitchen in the home is located in the basement and comes fitted with a dumb waiter to make life much easier for domestic staff.

The home also features planet of “sleeping porches” that were used by inhabitants to sleep in during summer months. 

A winding driveway extends over 1,800 feet which ends at the impressive gate to the property.The house also comes with an octagonal pool house boasting of a bath and a dressing room as well as a spa and twin conjoined heptagonal pools that span across 75 feet together.
