Marvin robot can plug itself in power sockets

Intel has delivered a stunner yet again by developing a device that can not only locate power socket, but also plug itself in. It is believed that this robot will eventually save hours of time by just hovering, cleaning and mowing the lawn and without any adult supervision. Finally, the time has come when your robotic cleaning pet will follow you around and stop by to take in some power when it needs. This robot is the vision of Joshua R. Smith, who is principal engineer at Intel Labs, Seattle and its just amazing to see the manifestation of this vision.

This self feeding robot works using a computer that already knows where all the sockets are located. And, the computer can or tells the machine to navigate across the room to locate a socket. It has a mechanical arm with a plug on its end. This arm sweeps across the wall in all directions to determine the electric field, which helps him find the socket, eventually plugging itself in. Catch series of videos after the jump to see and feel Marvin and its capabilities.
