The most intelligent sticky notes of all time

quickies

To begin with these sticky notes called QUICKiES are intelligent because these notes can be searched and located. These notes can send reminders, messages and help you connect physical and informational experiences. Take for example, you are doing dishes in the kitchen and you make a note, reminding you to mail your landlord. Time goes by and later at the computer you are reminded with a friendly message to mail your landlord. Take another example, the grocery list that you had made earlier, gets synchronized with your task list on your computer and your mobile phone. Now, you must be wondering how these quickies do what they do, right?

Conceptualized by Pranav Mistry, MIT Media Lab, the goal of these notes was to bring to life the most useful invention of our digital age. Similar in concept to sticky notes, these quickies are just bit intelligent. Using a digital-pen hardware the physical sticky notes are captured in the computer, capturing the movement of pen on the surface of sticky notes. A software program stores the handwritten notes as images, converting the handwritten notes into computer understandable text using handwriting recognition algorithms. Then this text is processed using common sense knowledge engine and computational AI techniques. So, from here the computer program utilizes its understanding of user’s intentions, providing the user with reminders, alerts, messages and etc. This system also links the notes with mobile phone, digital calendars, task lists and e-mails. I know it’s a bit complicated, but wait one last thing to go; there is a RFID tag at the back of every quickie, so that it is easy for you to locate them in the house or the office.
