Walk into a world of clever repurposing with the InDoor Table/Desk/Door by Mano Teca

We get to here about weird and wonderful tables by the dozen each day. Even though most of them are simply clever plays on existing designs, some of them do dare to venture out in design wilderness and with some bravado too. The InDoor Vintage Table/Desk/Door by Italian design house Mano Teca is one such project and we just cannot stop wondering at the ingenuity of the idea.

The Bologna, Italy-based design studio Mano Teca specializes in creating unique one-off pieces out of reclaimed materials though the InDoor project has got to be their best endeavor so far. The table is basically crafted from a repurposed old wooden door which comes laden with strategically placed hinges and a custom-fitted steel frame that allows the table/door to be shut and opened at will.

We’re guessing the door serves as a screen when left open and conceals and protects the user using the rest of the table as a workstation from prying eyes or the sun and wind. The underside of the “door” also conceals three pockets crafted out of recycled raw hide which can be used to hold pens, pencils when the door is upright.

When the door is “shut”, the table can be used as a massive dining table that can accommodate up to eight people at a time. The InDoor Table/Desk/Door measures 102cm wide, 198 cm long and 80 cm tall. The one-off creation is crafted entirely from reclaimed and repurposed materials and and is treated with a natural paint finish.
